Job Application Tips: Should I Apply More than Once?
I recently received a question from a wonderful reader who is looking for a new job. Here is her question:
“Is it advisable to apply for the same job position advertised by a company more than once? For instance, if Company A advertises a position which fits my profile, is it a good practice to apply for that job not only from one website but also from other job websites?”
This is a great question because I have found that jobs are advertised on a ton of different websites! It is hard for the applicant to know what website to use to apply or if it increases the chances of getting a call back if you apply on all of the websites.
Should I Apply More than Once if a Position is Listed on Different Career Sites?
I recommend you apply once from the best source. The very first place that you want to apply at is the company website if it is advertised on there. Usually, you can find job openings on Monster or CareerBuilder, but the best place to actually apply is directly on the company website. If you can’t find it on the website, apply at the most reputable job search site.
Remember, you should not have to log in with a username and password to apply for a job. I have been noticing this happening a lot lately. This is really frustrating and is a great way to get a ton of spam and no calls back!
I have found that the best websites for searching and applying for jobs are CareerBuilder, Monster, LinkedIn and Indeed. Let me know if you have any others that are great! I also recommend signing up for job emails with the keywords of jobs that you are looking for. The email updates will let you know exactly when a job is posted that matches so you don’t have to be searching every day for jobs. Who has time for that!!
