Meet Caitie Barber: The Tech Career Coach Who’s Changing Lives
I’m so excited about today’s post. I’m bringing back one of my favorite guests, the incredible Caitie Barber. If you missed her the first time, she’s an amazing tech career coach specializing in helping burnt-out women in tech make amazing career moves and start living the luxurious life they deserve.
Since we chatted last about Caitie’s journey to becoming a coach, she’s been on fire. Business is booming and she’s been racking up wins for her clients left and right. Let’s dive in and discover what she’s been up to!
Caitie, tell me! What’s been happening in your world?
Well, Anna, it’s been a wild year! Graduating from the Classy Career Girl® Certified Career Coach program was a game-changer. I’ve helped so many women revamp their careers, break that salary ceiling, and finally get what they’re worth. It’s honestly the most rewarding work. Oh, and who can forget that reel that went viral? It was insane!
Navigating the Tech Job Market in 2024
Anna: So, Caitie, lots has changed since you graduated. How has the job search landscape shifted in the tech world, and what should our listeners know?
Caitie: Being a Tech Career Coach is always evolving, and that includes the way to help people find jobs. In 2024, you’ve got to be proactive. Think outside the traditional job boards – there are tons of niche sites and communities out there for different tech areas. Also, networking still counts! Connect directly with hiring managers in your target field. Get creative about how you introduce yourself – a quick Loom video showcasing your skills can really break through the noise.
The Remote Work Advantage
Anna: Remote work is huge now. Any tips on how to ace that angle during the job hunt?
Caitie: Absolutely! Highlight your self-starter abilities and remote work experience – whether it was a past job, volunteer project, or even setting up a home office. Show that you’re tech-savvy, organized, and amazing at communication. If you don’t have direct remote experience, get creative with how you showcase those ‘remote-friendly’ skills.
Staying Ahead of the Curve
Anna: We know everything changes so fast in tech. How do you help clients future-proof their careers?
Caitie: It’s all about upskilling and staying curious! Explore hot technologies and trends. Even if you don’t end up specializing in them, showing that you’re always learning makes you more valuable. Also, don’t ignore industries outside tech! Think healthcare, insurance – they’re adopting new tech all the time.
The Secret Sauce: Insights from a Tech Career Coach and Recruiter
Anna: What gives you the edge, Caitie? You understand how it works from both sides of the job market!
Caitie: That’s so true! My recruiting background helps me tailor coaching strategies uniquely. I know exactly what makes candidates stand out, from resume keywords to how they answer those tricky interview questions.
A Success Story to Inspire
Anna: Okay, time to brag a little. Share a client story that makes you super proud.
Caitie: There’s one that stands out! I worked with a graphic designer who’d applied for her dream job and got rejected. It crushed her. A year later, she reached out – this time, we revamped her approach completely. She nailed the interview, and got the job with a 35K raise and amazing benefits! It’s about persistence and being smart about your job hunt.
That Viral Reel…
Anna: Lastly, we have to talk about your Instagram explosion! 200 to 20k followers! What happened and what advice do you have for other career coaches trying to build their presence?
